Games: First & Foremost

Games are a huge market.  If you walk into an Electronic Boutique,  Future Shop or even a Business Depot, you will very quickly notice, that the game section is MUCH larger than the software section. Why?  Because games have universal appeal.  Everyone seems to enjoy playing a game at some time.

What is wrong or right with the current game market.  Arguments over standards? Accelerated hardware developments? Difficult programming? Lack of creativity?...  I would say that the industry suffers a little, from all of the above.  What the industry needs is a totally open standard for game development that is cross platform capable, and not just up to date with industry hardware, but actually has the expandability to support future developments. That's asking for a miracle as it is, but I'd like to see one more thing... Easy development.  Development that is so easy, hobbyists and weekend programers could produce a product that looks as good as what can be done professionally.  This not only benefits hobbyists and weekend programmers, but also help professionals, by allowing faster development time.  This would hopefully give them more time to be creative :)
